Frequently Asked Questions

Why should I transfer to AFA?

Foster parents who transfer to AFA often mention the personal approach, clear communication and genuine appreciation they receive. We focus on supporting you so you can focus on the children in your care.

Can I transfer to AFA while I have a child placed with me?

Yes. In most cases, transfers can take place while you continue to care for your current child. The process is carefully managed to avoid disruption, and we work closely with your current agency and local authority to make the transition as smooth as possible.

How long does the transfer process take?

Transfer time depends on individual circumstances. We will guide you through each stage, keeping you informed and supported throughout. Our team aims to make the process straightforward and stress-free.

Will I need to go through the full assessment process again?

Not always. As an experienced foster parent, much of your existing experience and training will be recognised. AFA will review your current Form F assessment and update it where needed, rather than starting from scratch.

Will my fostering allowance change if I transfer to AFA?

Your allowance will remain competitive, and many foster parents find that AFA offers improved financial transparency and reliability. We ensure all carers are fairly rewarded and provide clear information about payments from the outset.

What kind of support will I receive from AFA?

You will have a dedicated supervising social worker, 24/7 on-call support, access to therapeutic services, and regular training opportunities. We also host support groups, events and family activities to help you feel part of the AFA community.

Can I speak to another foster parent who has already transferred to AFA?

Yes. Many of our current foster parents transferred from other agencies and are happy to share their experiences. Let us know if you would like to chat with a foster parent in your area, and we will arrange an introduction.

Do I have to inform my current agency before speaking to AFA?

No. You can have an informal, confidential chat with us at any time to explore your options. If you decide to proceed, we will advise you on when and how to notify your current agency at the right stage.

What makes AFA different from other fostering agencies?

AFA is a family-focused agency that values strong relationships with foster parents. We combine professional expertise with a personal approach, offering consistent communication, dependable support and a genuine commitment to helping you succeed as a foster parent.
